St. John’s Retirement Centre exists to provide residential accommodation and community support for older persons as a practical expression of the Christian imperatives of love and service.

The Board

The Village Board has managed the growth and development of St. John’s from very humble beginnings to the Village we have today. The Board continues to invest in expanding the Village infrastructure and upgrading units as opportunities arise. The Board is committed to keeping the village as “The Perfect Place to Live”. 

Our Team

The day to day operations of the Village are managed by an experienced team of committed managers and their respective staff.  From the welcoming reception team through to the attentive care staff and helpful maintenance crew, the focus is on making sure the Village is 'The Perfect Place to Live'.

History

 

It started as a dream by members of the local Presbyterian Church back in the 1970’s - the creation of a facility to provide accommodation for older members of the community. The passion and drive of those Church members and the local community led to funds being raised, land being purchased and in 1979 the initial 4 units being designed for construction.

Our first resident moved into the Village in May 1983 with construction happening all around. At the same time planning was well underway for the Community Centre that was officially opened in September 1984. St. John's Village was taking shape. Live-in managers were appointed and by November of 1984 a Residents committee had been formed to co-ordinate activities and events.

Funding was difficult and the Village continued to draw upon the generosity of the community. Additional land was acquired with the purpose of expanding the number of units to make a truly viable facility. 

With compassion and perseverance, the Village has continued to grow to over 160 Independent Living Units it has today.

 

The Village is owned by St. John’s Retirement Centre, a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. The company’s dynamic Board of volunteer Directors is committed to providing safe, secure and comfortable retirement accommodation to residents  in a happy and stimulating environment. On an ongoing basis the company is funding a range of new generation units, refurbishing existing units and expanding the community facilities.

 

St. John's Village came about through a dream of providing accommodation, today it is dream accommodation for its many residents – “The perfect place to Live”.
